Everyone should have access to theatre and culture.

However, performing arts adapted for people with functionnal diversity is too rare. To change this reality, universal accessibility must be thought about from the very beginning and included in the creative process, not as an last minute afterthought.

It may seem intimidating to know where to begin to make truly accessible art without taking away its essence. Through this conference-discussion, we will talk about the basics of creative accessibility as well as the essential notions to make truly inclusive steps, attentive to the reality and needs of diverse communities.

Created by Théâtre Déchaînés, this guide of 67 pages is a tool box to make performing arts accessible to all. You can find ideas, concepts, and concrete advice to better understand what is cultural accessibility, discover the creative accessibility approach and learn to integrate it directly in an artistic process.

This approach and the guide are recipient of the prix Initiative innovante, given by the Conseil Québécois du théâtre in Octobre 2025.
