L.U.C.A. (Last Universal Common Ancestor): that’s the little nickname for THE original cell, source of all living things, humans, animals and plants. It also is THE answer that the conceptors and performers of this documentary play give to the infamous question “Where are you from?”. The Italo-Belgian duo, Grégory Carnoli and Hervé Guerrisi, address the audience directly with chemistry, humour, sensitivity and authenticity. They uncover family trees, research on genetics and real family testimonies. This necessary and topical conversation questions our relation to ourselves, but mostly, our relation to the Other.
L.U.C.A. is one of those rare shows putting a check mark on every essential : it is touching, it makes you think and mostly, it is a feel-good story. We leave the venue with the feeling to be a part of the big human family. It is a soft slap in the face and a personal favorite of ours.
