Nadia Beugré (France | Montpellier & Abidjan)
“We are already born”. Those are the impactful words of the cast of Prophétique, members of the trans and non-binary community. This collective work directed by Nadia Beugré and created in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast questions gender indentity and displays a unique societal reality not often seen in traditional media. Halfway between movement exploration, theatre, unleashed dance and LGBTQIA+ activism, the cast shares their stories and adjust their performance to the audience’s reactions. Hairdressers by day, they set the dancefloor on fire during the night, living their full truth in a society that wishes to erase them, the ones they call “the crazies”.
We were shaken to the core by our artistic meeting with Nadia Beugré, unique choreographer and director of her generation. Prophétique is a powerful creation, moving and funny. It is almost like a big party where the cast’s happiness is contagious and body positivity shatters the traditional boundaries, introducing us to a daring and uncommon universe.
