The Festival Carrefour is proud to offer a rich and diverse annual program while contributing to the accessibility to art and culture

The purpose of the Carrefour international de théâtre is to contribute to the well-being and togetherness of society through the experience of performing arts and communion with artists and the community.

Mission

The Carrefour’s mission is to present the Festival Carrefour and exceptional cultural and artistic experiences accessible to everyone. With the help of artists and workers in the cultural sector, we offer a diverse and inclusive program from all over the world to facilitate the appreciation of theatre and performing arts in all its forms.

Values

The essence of the Carrefour is represented by inclusion and openheartedness. Hospitality and respect inspire our team and volunteer in the welcoming of our audiences, especially those who may not have easy access to art and culture, whatever the reasons may be.

Vision

The Carrefour’s vision is one of collective well-being through acessibility and the inclusion of performing arts in Quebec City’s community’s lifestyle.


History

Established since 1991 in Quebec City, the festival was created as a non-profit organisation and biennale. From 1997 to 2007, the biennale was produced alternating with « Théâtres d’Ailleurs ».

In 2009, the Carrefour become yearly and produces for the first time the big walk-through experience Où tu vas quand tu dors en marchant…?, which welcomes thousands of spectators in the streets of Quebec City.

Since 1992, approximately 500 shows were presented at the Carrefour, amounting to over 1400 individual performances ! 137 of those shows are coming from 27 different countries.
